Malawi, in east Africa, is the "The Warm Heart of Africa." While living
there during 2006, the fabric markets were my inspiration. With rickety
stalls, dark tunneled paths and hand-cut sky lights for illumination, I
would spend hours getting lost in the maze of the market, my eyes over
stimulated will the brilliance of color and design lining the walls
from floor to ceiling.

This purse is made of "Chitenge" fabric. Chitenge is the traditional
wrap around skirt that women wear. Fabric is sold in two lengths of 1.5
meters. One piece is worn as a skirt and the other wrapped around the
head, a sign of modesty that women can choose to practice.
